When you analyze product feedback effectively, you're looking for patterns, not recency. Meaning, not keywords.
Take those 12 button complaints. A spreadsheet shows you 12 rows. Pattern detection shows you one clear issue (payment submission is broken), 12 explicit reports, and if 12 people reported it, dozens more hit the issue and left. Priority? High, because it directly blocks revenue.
Now layer in this: Three other users mentioned "the checkout flow feels long." Seems unrelated, right?
Until you realize those 3 complaints spiked the same week the button broke. They're not complaining about flow length. They're clicking submit multiple times, nothing happens, so they assume it's part of a multi-step process.

How to Identify Feedback Themes Without Missing What Matters
If you're committed to manual analysis, here's what works:
Group by theme, not by date. Create categories before you start: bugs, feature requests, UX friction, performance, etc. Tag every piece of feedback. Then analyze by category.
Look for semantic patterns. Don't just search for the word "button." Someone saying "can't complete checkout" is reporting the same issue as "submit doesn't work." Read for meaning, not keywords.
Count mentions, not rows. If 8 people describe the same problem differently, that's one issue with high frequency. Track themes, not individual entries.
Weight by impact, not recency. The feedback from yesterday isn't automatically more important than the feedback from last month. Ask: How many users does this affect? What's blocked by this issue?
Cross-reference complaints. That "slow dashboard" complaint might be related to the "data doesn't load" complaint. Look for connections across categories.
This process works. It's also time-consuming, error-prone, and doesn't scale past a few hundred pieces of feedback.
